Today is the First of a Two Day Tourney

After the Valley Tigers Lacrosse Team went 2-0 in junior varsity league play last week, we're off to Lincoln, NE for a three game round robin tournament. Unlike those games, this weekend we will be playing varsity competition from Lincoln, Kansas City, and Omaha. The games are scheduled to be played over the weekend and we plan to attend a MCLA game between the Nebraska Cornhuskers and Arkansas Razorbacks tonight.
Our first game is against the Lincoln Rampage at 2:00 pm. The team is made up of players from around the Lincoln metro and is in its first year of varsity play. Valley will play Lincoln for the second time; they previously met in the fall tournament. Despite the Tigers' relatively poor skills at the time, they managed to beat the Rampage 4-2 last October. Considering our outstanding play this week and expecting Lincoln to have improved as well, I predict that we will come away with a win.
Sunday sees us go head to head with St. Thomas Aquinas from Overland Park, KS at noon.. The Saints show that they have played three league games so far, but scores were not available. Kansas has a young league, but the Saints have been playing lacrosse since 2004. Last year, they put up 13 goals against Millard West's varsity team. They should prove to be a fair challenge.
Our last game of the tourney pits us against another Nebraska League varsity team, Papio LaVista. The 2:00 pm game sees us play against the Papio team we scouted last Saturday. They were on the field against the Creighton Prep varsity squad and looked rather impressive. Their fourth place ranking on West Side Lacrosse is rather deceiptive. Make no mistake, Papio will definitely be formidable competition.
I am confident that our boys will play a strong and controlled game. We will gain a lot of experience in this atmosphere and should come away with three wins. The temperature in Lincoln is supposed to be a smidgen warmer than Des Moines this weekend (48 on Sat & 60 on Sun), so weather should not be a factor. Go Tigers!
On a side note, from now on, I will primarily post results and news on the Valley Lacrosse home page.
